Oscar nomination 2026 for Kate Hawley „Frankenstein“

We congratulate costume designer Kate Hawley on her 2026 Oscar nomination in the category ‘Best Costume Design’ for ‘Frankenstein’. We are delighted that Kate collaborated with Theaterkunst on this production.

In our interview, Kate talks about her work on Frankenstein:rnrn”Frankenstein has an operatic tone and is a haunting melodrama. So while we kept the silhouettes historically accurate, there was a lot of freedom. You could probably describe it as Guillermo’s “fever dream of this era”. A gothic fairy tale. […] We developed fabrics and a language that reflect the images and tone Guillermo created in his screenplay. Themes such as mythology, religion, memory and untamed nature are omnipresent.”

These four costume designers are also nominated: Deborah L. Scott for Avatar 3: Fire and Ash // Malgosia Turzanska for Hamnet // Miyako Bellizzi for Marty Supreme // Ruth E. Carter for Blood & Sinners

The awards ceremony will take place on 15 March 2026 in Los Angeles.
