Venice International Film Festival 2024

Start of this year’s Venice Film Festival (28.8. to 9.9.2024). For the 81st time, films from all over the world will be shown at the Lido and three productions with costumes from the world of theater will once again be included this year. The jury president is Isabelle Huppert, who awards the coveted Golden Lion together with members such as Andrew Haigh and Julia von Heinz.

“The Brutalist” – Brady Corbet’s ‘The Brutalist’ has its premiere in Venice as part of the competition. Adrien Brody plays the role of a Holocaust survivor who emigrates to the USA. He is joined by Felicity Jones, Joe Alwyn and Guy Pearce. Costume designer Kate Forbes worked with us on this project, using clothing from different eras.

“Maria” – Director Pablo Larraín celebrates a premiere at the Lido for the fourth time with his film Maria. Angelina Jolie plays the opera singer Maria Callas in the German-Italian co-production. Costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini has borrowed various costumes from our collection. The film is also in the running for the Golden Lion.

The side series “Orizzonti Extra” opens with Tim Fehlbaum’s “September 5 – The Day Terror Went Live”. The story of the 1972 Olympic bombing is told from an unusual perspective. What began as pure sports reporting developed into terror reporting. A film about the responsibility of the media – not only in the seventies. Costume designer Leonie Zykan found what she was looking for in our 70s department.
