Virginia Woolf’s Night and Day
“Virginia Woolf’s Night and Day” (cinema release: 9 July 2026) is based on the author’s novel of the same name, published in 1919. In London, Katherina (Haley Bennett) prefers to pursue her academic ambitions rather than rush into marriage. When she then meets the women’s rights activist Mary (Lily Allen), she is drawn into the world of social self-determination. Her heart beats for astronomy and, suddenly, also for the forward-thinking lawyer Ralph (Elyas M’Barek).
Costume designer Esther Walz has hired a number of costumes from our collection for this production. She says about the costume design: “The aim of the Iranian director Tina Gahravi and myself was to authentically portray the period around 1910, but without it looking like a dusty period piece. Bringing a touch of freshness to historical costumes, without adapting them to our modern viewing habits and without distorting the period, is a task that should not be underestimated.”
