Revival of smock aprons

The fashion world is in turmoil, and women of the ‘apron’ generation are tugging at their aprons in bewilderment. When, at the end of 2025, a major fashion label sent its models down the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week wearing rather expensive aprons, some were so taken aback that their wooden spoons fell from their hands. “Hardly any other item of clothing symbolises care, invisibility and women’s work as much as the apron,” Deutschlandfunk wrote in response.

In our collection, smock aprons are so important that they have their own section. They share this space with half-aprons, bib aprons and Dederon aprons, sorted by colour, pattern and embroidery. After all, this textile heritage has accompanied people in various professions for centuries, and later in the home as well.

In films, it is much more than just an item of clothing. It can instantly convey a sense of time, social role, character and atmosphere. Particularly in historical, social or slice-of-life films, it serves as a visual clue that conveys cultural codes.
