A World Gone Mad. The War Diaries of Astrid Lindgren

Cinema release of ‘A World Gone Mad. The War Diaries of Astrid Lindgren’. The documentary film tells the true story behind the success of the world-famous author in the form of a biopic with documentary and scenic images from the perspective of Astrid Lindgren and her daughter Karin, her granddaughter Annika and her great-grandson Johan, based on her war diaries. Astrid Lindgren’s war diaries, which were only published in 2015, lay hidden in her bedroom linen cupboard for 70 years and have now been filmed for the first time.

Costume designer Heike Neugebauer borrowed the blue children’s dress featured on the film poster, as well as other children’s, women’s and men’s clothing from the 1930s and 1940s and historical swimsuits from us for this production.

At the film premiere in Bremen, when asked about the authenticity of the costumes, she said: “The costumes are definitely period-appropriate. […] You can trust Theaterkunst Berlin on that. They are a very professional company that rents out great costumes for films, and when I walk into the room where sweaters from 1930 to 1940 or 1945 are hanging, they are hanging there too. […] Astrid was very modern. She often wore wide trousers or men’s shirts and rarely the classic floral dresses of the time.”
