Alte Liebe
Cinema release of ‘Alte Liebe’, a clever love story about two people who rediscover each other after forty years of marriage. Biting, ironic, sentimental, light-hearted and tender. Since retiring, Harry (Joachim Król) has done nothing but grumble, drink wheat beer and tend to his delphiniums. That’s what Lore (Dagmar Manzel) finds. She clings to her job as a librarian, organises embarrassing readings and reveres her poets as if they were prophets. Harry finds her. For an elderly married couple, the two of them talk an astonishing amount, yet usually mean something else entirely. When their daughter Julia wants to get married for the third time, a row is inevitable – and yet it is only the tip of the iceberg. A lot builds up over forty years of marriage.
Costume designer Birgitt Kilian combines contemporary clothing with individual, true-to-life characterisation, drawing on a keen sense of authenticity and everyday life. Some of the costumes come from our costume collection.
