Oscar for Kate Hawley

Congratulations to New Zealand costume designer Kate Hawley on winning the Oscar for Best Costume Design for “Frankenstein”. 🏆

With her unmistakable style, she has created a visual world for this film that is at once dark, poetic and rich in detail. Her designs combine historical inspiration with a powerful, distinctive visual language and play a decisive role in making the characters on screen so striking.

Bravo, Kate Hawley – and thank you very much for this inspiring collaboration!

In our Theaterkunst Talk, she said: “I really loved creating this world together with my team. We developed fabrics and a language that reflect the images and tone Guillermo created in his screenplay. Themes such as mythology, religion, memory and untamed nature are ever-present.”

Oscar nomination 2026 for Kate Hawley „Frankenstein“

We congratulate costume designer Kate Hawley on her 2026 Oscar nomination in the category ‘Best Costume Design’ for ‘Frankenstein’. We are delighted that Kate collaborated with Theaterkunst on this production.

In our interview, Kate talks about her work on Frankenstein:rnrn”Frankenstein has an operatic tone and is a haunting melodrama. So while we kept the silhouettes historically accurate, there was a lot of freedom. You could probably describe it as Guillermo’s “fever dream of this era”. A gothic fairy tale. […] We developed fabrics and a language that reflect the images and tone Guillermo created in his screenplay. Themes such as mythology, religion, memory and untamed nature are omnipresent.”

These four costume designers are also nominated: Deborah L. Scott for Avatar 3: Fire and Ash // Malgosia Turzanska for Hamnet // Miyako Bellizzi for Marty Supreme // Ruth E. Carter for Blood & Sinners

The awards ceremony will take place on 15 March 2026 in Los Angeles.

European Film Awards 2026

The 2026 were all about diversity, creativity and the special significance of European cinema. The festive atmosphere in Berlin clearly demonstrated how important this event is for Europe: it brings together filmmakers from all countries, promotes cultural exchange and shows that film is much more than entertainment – it is a mirror of our society and our shared European identity.

We congratulate costume designer Sabrina Krämer on her award in the ‘European Costume Designer’ category for ‘In die Sonne schauen’ (Sound of Falling). Also nominated were Ursula Patzak for “Duse” and Michaela Horáčková Hořejší for ‘Franz’.

This year, Theaterkunst is a partner of the film awards. With a guided tour of our premises, we expanded the supporting programme of the award weekend to include the costume department and gave some members of the European Film Academy an exclusive insight into our costume collection.

The 2026 European Film Awards have once again shown that Europe can tell beautiful, inspiring and emotional stories that connect countries and generations. See you in Athens in 2027!

German Acting Award 2025

As a partner of the German Acting Award, we supported this year’s ceremony with costumes from our collection. The presenting team of Nadine Heidenreich, Christian Senger and Hans-Werner Meyer decided on a show-party dedicated to hospitals in order to celebrate the ensemble award for the series ‘Krank Berlin’ in a fitting manner.

Presenter Nadine Heidenreich also dazzled in a golden sequinned dress from our evening wear department.

The German Acting Award was established in 2012 by the BFFS – Die Schauspielgewerkschaft (German Actors’ Union) and is an award given by actors to actors and people who have inspired and promoted the art of acting in a special way through their work.
